We are always looking for interesting topics for our Community evenings. Often, we don’t have to look too far and find them among our Connectors!
For our last community, we were looking for a current topic that would be of interest to both our Java Developer and DotNet Developer. We ended up on the deployment and implementation of an AWS Aurora PostgresSql database.
Our Connector, Wouter talked about his real-life experiences on his project related to AWS Aurora PostgresSql database and how they got started with it.
Why PostgresSql was chosen was because of its pre-existing integration with AWS. Coming from on-prem MS Sql, sql-in-the-cloud seemed the optimal choice, were it not for the big price difference between the two. Through Terraform, they created a new database cluster, this by logging in via Kubectl where they then set up their tables.
In the end, they chose an AM security with automatic password-rotation. The conscious choice for this was that it made the story more secure. However, it soon turned out that how this worked was a bit more complex after all.
For one thing, this story only worked in their Kubernetes and they had to look for a local parallel solution. They found this parallel solution in Docker-Compose. On the other hand, they have the issue of dynamic connection strings because of changing passwords. After some research, they ended up with Entity Framework DataSource builders with refresh-callback functionality. This made them migrate to .Net 7, which they eventually did get on with.
